Section V: Physical Objects
Lighting Lens base

Description: This is a UCSD student design project. It shows a base onto which lighting lenses, fed by fiber optic cables, are attached.

Things to Notice:
  • Engineers design in 3D on Computer Aided design (CAD) systems. They design shapes using 3D points, lines, surfaces, and solids. They then use that geometry of the proposed design to automatically perform analyses such as volume, weight, resistance to stress, and so on. They can also feed that geometry right to a manufacturing machine to have their part fabricated.
  • Notice how much clearer the 3D line drawing on the left becomes when you look at it with your ChromaDepth glasses.
