Summary: This module focuses on the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Activities start with a reading of a picture book describing the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. The students then create their own books and butterflies.
Kit Details: This is a wonderful introductory kit for the youngest students. Everyone loves looking at the samples of each of the stages and using the stamps to create their own book. The classic butterfly craft using liquid watercolors and coffee filters is always a hit. Older elementary students who have not had this experience also enjoy this module. More>>

Area(s) of Science: Life Science
Summary: The cell is the smallest unit of life. In this module students learn about cells. The younger students start with defining ‘living’ and move onto what is inside living things that they can’t see except under a microscope. Older students look at plant and animal cells and identifying the major parts and their function for each type of cell. The younger students will make a cell using symbolic, cartoon pictures for each major part. Older students will construct a more scientifically accurate cell using a cell model building set.
Kit Details: This kit is more formal than many of the other kits in the Science Enrichment Program. Use this kit later in the year after students have gained experience and confidence with the other kits. This is a good kit to use with middle school students at any time.

Summary: This module focuses on the transformation of a tadpole into a frog. Activities start with a reading of a picture book describing the metamorphosis of a tadpole into a frog. Students also examine preserved specimens of each of the major stages in the metamorphosis. Using Microslides, students examine each stage and answer questions. Younger students create and color their own book description the transformation.
Kit Details: This is a wonderful introductory kit for elementary students. Everyone loves looking at the samples of each of the stages and using the stamps to create their own book. The preserved specimens and Microslides are fascinating to examine. More>>

Summary: In this module students are introduced to the world unseen by the unaided eye. They will be introduced to magnification first via a magnifying glass and later with photos taken through a microscope. The student handout leads the students through the day’s activities. The class can be run as a self-paced exercise or the instructor can walk the group through each of the activities.
Kit Details: The kit uses microslide viewers in place of real microscopes. No electricity is needed and the viewers are really light weight for portability. This is a good activity to do before the Inside a Cell module
